Paul Wagner is a Master Teacher with a 45 year background in the Dance Arts, Theater Arts & Fine Arts. His incredibly diverse background makes him one of the most unique and talenteddance teachers of our time. From line and design to pure classical Russian technique and a comprehensive grasp of both sides of the footlights... He is in a league of his own. Few teachers can create the kind of excitement Mr. Wagner brings to the classroom. Mr. Wagner has studied or worked with some of the greatest names in the dance arts. George Balanchine, Robert Joffrey, Gerald Arpino, Jerome Robbins, Antony Tudor, Edward Caton, Robert Rodham, Alvin Ailey, Judith Jamison, John Butler, Anna Sokolow, Mary Anthony, Frano Jelincic, Barbara Weisberger, Martin Charnin, Peter Gennaro , Rudolf Nureyev, Violette Verdy, Fernand Nault, Brydon Paige, Anton Dolin, William Dollar, Wilma Curley, are just a scant few of the Glitterati of the Dance whom he has called friend and colleague. Mr. Wagner's anecdotes are almost a class unto themselves as stories of the fabled past of the dance emerge with equal ease to coaxing technique from his students.
His own repertoire as a professional dancer with two major companies included roles in "Le Combat" By William Dollar; "Symphony in C", "Scotch Symphony", "Donnizeti Variations"and Pas De Dix by George Balanchine; as well as appearances in "Jardin Aux Lilas" by Anthony Tudor; several versions of "The Nutcracker"and "Swan Lake"; a world premier of "Time Plus" by Anna Sokolow; "Carmina Burana" by John Butler; "Threnody" by Mary Anthony; L'Oiseau de Feu by Fernand Nault and literally dozens of other world acclaimed ballets by some of the greatest choreographers in the history of dance.
He was Founder/Artistic Director of two chamber ballet companies that premiered more than a dozen of his works. His choreography encompasses a broad range of subjects that have received highest critical acclaim. His ballet about the life of Vincent Van Gogh called; "Islands in Hell" brought this critical praise, "Wagner is a wizard who conjures up magic on the stage!". His bravura "The Denver Suite" a suite of dances to the songs of John Denver by special permission, association and arrangement with the celebrated composer Lee Holdridge (John Denvers Arranger/Conductor) won the praise from New York critics ..."a star to be watched...joyous...powerful"
Mr. Wagner has conducted Lecture Demonstrations on the Classical Ballet in more than twenty-five colleges and universities across the country and was a special Guest Lecturer on Management of the Arts to the MBA program at Yale University by special invitation of Eugene Palatsky a true titan in the development of Dance in America.
In Professional Musical Theater, Mr. Wagner appeared in revivals of Brigadoon, Carousel, Annie Get Your Gun, The Fantastiks, Fiorello and many others of the grand musicals of the past. He was an early formulator of the American Guild of Musical Artists (dancers union), a Gold Card National member of the Association of Theatrical Press Agents and Managers, a member of the Canadas dancer's union, Union Des Artistes. He was General Manager of the Cincinnati Ballet Company for Founder/Artistic Director David McLain and Company Manager of the world famous Joffrey Ballet under the guiding excellence of his dear friends Robert Joffrey and Gerald Arpino.
In the allied performing arts he has worked with world renowned stars of the Opera Renata Tibaldi, Tito Gobi, Mario Del Monico and Renata Scotto...in the theater such luminaries as Donna McKechnie, Larry Kurt, John Carradine and Robert Guilliame and in music with John Denver and Conductor/Composer/Arranger Lee Holdridge.
His life in Fine Arts saw his first showing in the late 60s with his hand cut Venetian glass 4x6 Gontacharova at a venue of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia. Over the years he has continued his interest in the fine arts and worked extensively with the internationally famous painter Edward Miracle on several projects involving dance and fine arts. Miracle and Wagner have decided to collaberate again with an art show and performance in 2013 in Palm Springs and Long Beach, Ca. that will include a west coast unveiling of Miracle's new life sized sculpture dedicated to victims of abuse.
Mr. Wagner is readying a show of his most recent paintings for the 2013-14 season as well. Friend and colleague, Tricia Bakke, a celebrated Fine Artist & Muralist to a veritable Whos Who in Palm Springs, said of Pauls paintings, He has a Masters eye for color and lightHe is one of a kind.
